An Inspiration Moves On
Posted by Ron Knecht · January 12, 2017 9:00 AM

As 2016 winds up, we reflect on the homages we paid to great professionals and human beings we’ve long admired as they graciously ended their illustrious careers. They included Vin Scully, Tim Duncan and Charles Osgood. We’ll deeply miss the mastery and character with which they executed their crafts and enriched our lives.
Today, we add Thomas Sowell.

Ron Paul vs. Nick Sarwark: The Real Truth
Posted by Zachary Foster · January 05, 2017 2:30 PM
Exactly 5 years ago I stepped on an airplane at Des Moines International Airport, having spent the last two weeks working my tail off for the Ron Paul 2012 presidential campaign. The Iowa Caucuses were a glorious time. Ron Paul was the GOP front-runner before Fox News manufactured Rick Santorum's narrow victory. That was realistically the closest the liberty movement has been to taking the White House and rolling back the federal government through the executive route. We didn't make it, but I only regret that I couldn't do more. I never thought I'd see the day when people in the movement openly criticize Ron Paul as un-libertarian (it would have absolutely been heard of 5 years ago). Nonetheless, here's the truth about the recent snippy exchange between Ron Paul and LNC Chair Nick Sarwark:

No, 'Clovergender' is NOT a Thing!
Posted by Zachary Foster · January 04, 2017 1:59 PM
I'll freely admit to creeping on Lauren Southern's twitter profile on a weekly basis. She shared something today that's important and an item for clarification: the concept of 'clovergender.' (By the way, Lauren, I must confess: your beauty, your wit, your take-no-prisoners style, and your passionate hold on your principles make you ridiculously attractive in my eyes. I'm madly in love with you [some days], but I've gotta admit that trolling liberals and telling them you identify as an attack helicopter is a total dick move. It's not nice to knowingly mess with the mentally ill, period. You're a role model for millions and you're better than that.)
In the last 2 days a definition of "Clovergender" has gone viral, with a number of social media accounts and amateur blogs nobody cares about going absolutely bananas over this. Clovergender or 'kindergender' supposedly applies to adults who never mentally develop beyond the age of 13 and believe they're permanent children or preteens trapped in an adult's body. Hence, they have romantic feelings or sexual attraction to kids and preteens. Sounds like a major red flag!

Here's what the Libertarian Party won this election
Posted by Zachary Foster · November 10, 2016 9:20 AM
UPDATE (12/31/16) In Southeastern Virginia, Tidewater Libertarian Party Vice Chair Jessica Abbott was elected to Virginia Beach City Council. She is the youngest (27) person ever elected to the VBCC and with 60% of the vote, she is the first challenger to defeat an incumbent by more than a 4% margin.
UPDATE (11/11/16) Libertarian Senator Laura Ebke (Nebraska) is still in office and runs for reelection in 2018. Also, Libertarian Rep. Max Abramson (New Hampshire) won 4% in the race for governor and thus qualified the LP for automatic ballot access in New Hampshire. Additional states where we won ballot access not listed in the first draft include New Hampshire, Ohio, Iowa, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

MANY LIBERTARIANS FEEL demoralized after the general election. One of the two authoritarian demagogues was going to win no matter what. The most painful part is that our national ticket couldn’t clinch that 5% (and even people on the Gary Johnson campaign are unhappy with Governor Bill Weld). Regardless of the disappointment, LP Nevada still applauds Governor Gary Johnson for bringing the Libertarian Party up to new milestones and for carrying forward the message of our platform. Here are some of the victories we gained this election:

Electoral College: your vote doesn't count in 40 states
Posted by Zachary Foster · October 22, 2016 2:54 PM
I’m so tired of hearing this nonsense from both sides: "A vote for Gary Johnson is a vote for Hillary. A vote for Gary Johnson is a vote for Trump."
For Heaven’s sake, ENOUGH of that broken record! Remember the Electoral College? That institution that guarantees one party will take all the state’s electoral votes in the presidential election? Unless you live in 1 of 9 or 10 battleground states, the Electoral College guarantees your vote doesn’t matter.

Gary Johnson, Nick Sarwark, and LP Nevada protest the crooked debates and the 2 party system
Las Vegas was a zoo yesterday evening as Metropolitan Police and the Secret Service turned UNLV into a fortress for the third presidential debate. As this debate also blatantly excluded increasingly popular Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson, the Libertarian Party voiced opposition to the crooked setup. While Governor Gary Johnson live tweeted the debate and appeared on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live!, LNC chairman Nicholas Sarwark joined LP Nevada to protest at UNLV.

Libertarian Party of Nevada censures Assemblyman John Moore (L)

See press release here or read below:
For immediate release...
Las Vegas, Nevada (17 October 2016) - The Executive Committee of the Libertarian Party of Nevada unanimously censured Libertarian Assemblyman John Moore last Friday for his support of two tax increases on Nevada citizens in the past week. His betrayal of principles with an unscrupulous YES vote on the $2 billion taxpayer-funded Raiders stadium hurt the already-exploited taxpayers of Nevada, damaged the credibility of the Libertarian Party of Nevada, and shattered the confidence of tens of thousands in their Assemblyman. Additionally, his vote in favor of the “More Cops” tax comes as a surprise; this is a measure the Libertarian Party of Nevada has tirelessly fought the Clark County Commission on for years.

A Vote for Trump is a Vote for Hillary... Here's why
Posted by Zachary Foster · October 10, 2016 5:04 PM
TRIGGER WARNING for Trump fans! (This video is the fourth in a daily series premiering now until the general election.)
A vote for Donald Trump is a vote for Hillary. Donald is FINISHED. The GOP has abandoned him. HE CAN'T WIN!
Now, I'll admit he did pretty damn good in that second debate. As a matter of fact, I give him CREDIT for blasting Bill Clinton’s history of being a sexual predator, and Hillary’s history of silencing sexual assault victims. I also concede that I’m aware Mr. Trump won’t be dropping out, and his most die-hard supporters have committed to chugging the Kool Aid and following him to the celestial comet. However...

Should We Reconsider Our 3rd Party Vote??? HELL NO!
Posted by Zachary Foster · October 07, 2016 6:22 PM
This is the first in a series of daily videos to be released between now and the general election. The video was made in response to Paul Waldman's "5 Reasons to Reconsider Your Third Party Vote" on The Week.
Paul Waldman essentially makes the case for selling out on your principles and swallowing the bitter Hillary Pill for the sake of defeating the Antichrist, Donald Trump. As far as Libertarians are concerned, the Democrats' plight is NOT OUR PROBLEM. The two parties created this mess on their own, and they can take each other out like spiders in a nest, without our help.

An Immigrant's Dream
Posted by Roberto Santiago · September 30, 2016 3:28 PM
The Libertarian Party was born in 1971 to listen to our community and serve with genuine interest the proposals of citizens to resolve together the problems affecting the entire society of Nevada, as insecurity and lack of opportunities that subject entire families to live in anguish and constant by the false promises of the ruling parties start. It encourages us to start a real movement, real proposals into action, where it is not exclude minority groups. (By economic status, ethnic or immigration status) In the Libertarian party know and understand that these groups are the most vulnerable to the crisis that directly affects their children, who have no chance of aspiring to higher quality education to enrich us as society, education that calls for the rescue of fundamental values that every human being is entitled. How I Came to Know Liberty
Posted by Kim Schjang · September 30, 2016 3:20 PM
To a young black woman who had just come roaring out of the closet, what could sound more amazing than the idea of a political philosophy of “Don’t mess with me and my stuff?” The problem, that was all I believed it was, a political philosophy. In an age where Google is everyone’s dictionary, a quick search will yield from www.philosophybasics.com : “Political philosophy is the study of fundamental questions about the state, government, politics, liberty, justice and the enforcement of a legal code by authority.” In 2007, I was out, loud and proud, lesbian and libertarian! These were drastic steps I had taken. How drastic you ask?

Posted by Zachary Foster · September 09, 2016 4:59 PM
We all know what happened. It's all over the Internet. The best part for we Libertarians is just sitting back and watching EVERYONE ELSE NOT KNOW WHAT ALEPPO IS EITHER, whilst they troll Gary for his gaffe. It also makes it better for our cause that this has actually boosted Johnson's presence in the media and online.
In making fun of him and trying to discredit him as a candidate, the liberal and conservative corporate-controlled media in fact exposed Gary Johnson to people who didn't used to know who he is. Now millions are looking him up and discovering that, unlike Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, Governor Gary Johnson is neither psychotic, nor an arrogant power-hungry sociopath.

Wade-ing into the abortion debate
Posted by · August 27, 2016 2:08 AM
Of all the hot topic issues, abortion is one of very few that has substantial libertarian support on either side. Officially, the Libertarian Party does not hold a stated position beyond saying that it's a personal decision best suited for individuals and not government to make, although Gary Johnson personally espouses a pro-choice position. My goal here is not to debate the merits of either side of the issue; instead, I want to discuss an aspect of the debate that I've heard brought up recently: how can a pro-lifer morally and ethically vote for a pro-choice Gary Johnson?

In our last column, we explained that the financial collapse of 2007-08 was due much to collusion between private banks and government. Unfortunately, it's also one outrage following a series of other outrages in which people who did not deserve to die were murdered. Nothing will bring back those murdered officers, nor will it bring back the black men recently shot by police in Minnesota and Baton Rouge. The best that we as Libertarians can do is learn from Dallas. We owe it to the dead, police and civilian alike, to seriously reflect on this wave of violence plaguing our country.

This goes out to the frustrated supporters of Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz. This also goes out to the undecided who sure as hell aren't picking between Hillary and Trump. Since yesterday night, recruitment has doubled for the Libertarian Party. You might consider giving us a look.

NBC’s Sarah Miller gives LP Nevada an inside scoop!
Posted by Zachary Foster · May 03, 2016 10:21 PM
Months ago, ten women selected for a fitness reality show were whisked off to a studio property. For ten weeks they were paired off with ten of the top fitness instructors in the world. The two-person teams trained arduously, the women lost weight, and the teams competed in elimination games. Welcome to NBC’s Strong. One of the ten women featured on the reality show is Chicago’s Sarah Miller, Pennsylvania born and bred and “a fan of all things libertarian!”

The Libertarian Party of Nevada is proud to support State Chairman Brett H. Pojunis for Chairman of the National Libertarian Party.
Libertarians are concerned about the viability of the Party on the National level. Mr. Pojunis promises to reform the National Party along the same lines as the Libertarian Party of Nevada. -
Is our country broken?
Posted by Nate Clark · April 13, 2016 4:11 PM
Is our country broken? I’m not asking if it has some problems that need to be worked on. I’m asking if it is truly “broken”. Like it needs a complete overhaul to get it right again.
We have one candidate saying he can make our nation great again. I’m sorry, but I believe it’s already great. Name me a country that’s better. If you’re able to answer that with a straight face then I ask…why don’t you live there? Probably because as much as you like something about that country, this one is working for you. If it wasn’t, you’d move your baggage.

Clarification about the NAP
Posted by Jason Weinman · April 10, 2016 7:47 PM
There seems to be a lot of confusion within the party, and the broader Liberty Movement, about the Non-Aggression Principle (NAP), the Statement Of Principles (SOP), the LP Pledge, “pragmatism,” “purity,” and even libertarianism. Lets try to clear it up, shall we? First of all, it is unreservedly false that the NAP is the “core principle,” of Libertarianism, or even that it’s a defining feature. Libertarianism is a political philosophy, defined by an easily identifiable set of policies. One is a libertarian, or not, on the basis of the policies that you support or oppose, not on the basis of your justification for those policies. The NAP is an ethical philosophy, defined by holding the categorical opposition to the initiation of force as the highest good (or, in many cases, the only good).

The Allegory of Bathroom-Jesus
Posted by Alexander DiBenedetto · April 06, 2016 10:33 PM
There has been much in-fighting in the Libertarian Party as of late. And for us to continue to grow, it needs to stop. We need to come together in a way that we haven't for many years. In fact, I believe the Party is on the cusp on something huge. Something good, or something bad, is what we make of it, and how we handle the next 190 days. To start the conversation, I'd like to share a story my church's pastor told us many years ago: The Allegory of Bathroom-Jesus. It has similar themes to Dr. Seuss's "The Butter Battle Book."

Interview with Gary Johnson, Libertarian presidential candidate
Posted by Zachary Foster · April 04, 2016 6:30 PM
I had the pleasure of interviewing former New Mexico Governor and 2016 presidential candidate Gary Johnson at the Libertarian Party of California 2016 Convention, held at the LAX Hilton. LP Nevada sent a volunteer delegation led by state chair Brett Pojunis to help the LPC with audio/video and communications. I solicited Libertarian Party members and liberty activists for thought-provoking questions to ask our Party’s candidates.

Dependently Wealthy to Independently Strong
Posted by Zachary Foster · March 29, 2016 12:50 PM
Sarah Miller thinks outside the box. She has a unique brand of humor and frankly doesn’t care who gets offended. “Since when did free speech become conditional?” she asks rhetorically. When this freelance writer and fan of all things libertarian isn’t stirring up controversy, she’s tackling new challenges. Miller recently competed in NBC’s latest fitness reality show, Strong.

The Real Record on Income Inequality and Economic Growth
Posted by Ron Knecht · March 24, 2016 9:00 AM
By Ron Knecht and Geoffrey Lawrence
We frequently hear claims from the Left that Republican economic policies increase income inequality by benefiting the wealthy and leaving the poor and middle class in the dust.
Last year, President Obama dissed Republican leaders' empathy for income inequality, saying, "They're just trying to bamboozle folks. We've got an agenda and we know it works."
As economists, we know that history and experience around the world show that economic freedom and strong property rights, plus the rule of law, limited government with separation of powers, and personal liberty and individual rights produce the best results for the public interest in human wellbeing and fairness. As public officials, we take these matters seriously. So, the first question we ask on issues is whether a particular policy, law, regulation, decision, etc. promotes economic growth and thus gives people greater opportunities and aggregate wellbeing.

“Who is Sarah Miller?” I asked myself when an attractive brunette crossed my social media feed. And why does she look like someone on TV? The answer’s simple: because Sarah Miller is someone on TV!
The 29 year old Chicago resident is a contestant on NBC’s Strong, premiering this spring. I had the opportunity to pick her brain and find out more about this up and coming reality star and what makes her tick.

The Power Behind Bartering
Posted by Angela Refsland · March 19, 2016 2:46 PM
Siri, what is a Libertarian?
A person who believes in the doctrine of free will.It was 1980. Jimmy Carter was soon to leave office and Ronald Reagan would take his place at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. The economy was stagnant, except for one interesting niche: Bartering. Bartering had grown beyond an old-fashioned way of country folk trading eggs for chopping firewood or a wagon load of hay for stud services from the neighbor's bull. Nearly every Fortune 500 company had a Barter Division. It was an effective method of making sales that otherwise wouldn’t have been made.

LP Nevada and American Dream Presents America Fight Night!
Posted by Zachary Foster · March 15, 2016 2:20 PM
To be the best, you have to surround yourself with the best. —Muhammad Ali
The Libertarian Party of Nevada hosted celebrities and dozens of Party members at its 2016 state convention. The convention happened simultaneously in Carson City and Las Vegas and was simulcast so members in both the northern and southern regions could participate without having to travel far.
Attendees included Libertarian Assemblyman John Moore, TV star and Libertarian candidate Dennis Hof, championship boxer Ron "the American Dream" Johnson, and several members of the Libertarian National Committee.
After the convention, Party members and supporters flocked to Satay Thai Bistro for the official after party. The after party was attended by dozens of activists and a variety of special guests, including athletes and billionaires. Best of all, Libertarian Party members everywhere had access to the after party and some HUGE announcements (see video here)!

The Racism of the Drug War (Part 2)
Posted by Zachary Foster · February 19, 2016 1:24 PM
“End the drug war. The deteriorating economic conditions and the mess with immigration invite the violence of the drug lords and corrupt officials on both sides. It’s time to break up the coalition of the religious drug warriors and the drug dealers who fight any effort to decriminalize drugs. It’s time to treat all drugs the way we treat alcohol and cigarettes, substances that kill millions more than hard drugs do." -
News from the North: End of Year Report
Posted by David Colborne · February 19, 2016 9:00 AM
This article was originally published in the December 2015 newsletter.
It's the end of the year. The sun rises later and sets earlier, the ground is either barren or covered in snow, the temperatures consistently dive below freezing when they can be bothered to stay above freezing at all. Ice covers our windshields, pipes occasionally freeze and crack, the passes out of town occasionally close. Though it all sounds depressing and bleak - and, sometimes, it is - it's also a necessary step toward renewal and new life. Winter brings us fresh snow, without which we don't have water for summer. Winter also kills the bugs, which is welcome once they the few stragglers from autumn stop wandering into our homes.

LPN activists train for busy campaign season
Posted by Zachary Foster · February 08, 2016 8:05 AM
The Libertarian Party of Nevada is arguably the most active state chapter of the Libertarian Party in America. I was incredibly proud to take part in this weekend’s activist training at the Libertarian Party of Nevada headquarters in Las Vegas. When I originally joined this band of freedom activists in the desert, I never imagined I’d get a front row seat at a third party’s historic growth.
