"Joe the Plumber" - maybe Congressman Wurzelbacher?

Written by LPNevada News on 26 August 2011.

"Joe the Plumber" might be considering a run for Congress? How interesting a race would that be? Ever since he "confronted" candidate Obama and got the famous answer about "spreading the wealth around", Joe has been on the speaker's circuit, written a book, and started a non-profit group for veterans in Alaska, among other things. His instant notoriety propelled him into the limelight, something from which he has not shied away in the intervening time. He claims that he has been asked repeatedly to run for some office, because, as he puts it, "look where the professionals and experts have gotten us", and supporters suggest he would bring some common sense to government.

His potential opponent, Marci Kaptur, hs been in Congress since the 1980's, is a member of the Progressive Congressional Caucus, and has unwavering Union support. It remains to be seen whether these associations will continue to be helpful to her candidacy, or will they be viewed as symptomatic of the problems plaguing Washington? If we do see an actual run on the part of "Joe the Plumber" - how much attention would that race generate? Only time will tell, but it is fascinating to speculate at this juncture.
