Joe Silvestri grew up on Long Island, New York and spent his first thirty years there, moving to Las Vegas in 1997. He received his B.A. in 1987 from SUNY College at New Paltz and received a Masters degree from SUNY at Stonybrook in 1993. Joe currently works for the Clark County School District where he teaches World History. He also works as a Realtor for Realty World, and continues to work his summers back on Long Island where he has worked as an ocean lifeguard since 1984.

Joe currently serves as Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Nevada. He realized he was a libertarian after reading Why Government Doesn’t Work by Harry Browne. It was shortly after this realization that he made the easy jump from (small “l”) libertarian to (big “L”) Libertarian. He joined the local Libertarian Party of Clark County and eventually served more than ten years as county Chair. He’s run for office (U.S. Congress, District 3) in 2010, 2008, 2006, and 2004. He’s deeply committed to building the Libertarian Party of Nevada into an effective political organization.

Other work experiences include educator (since 1989), Sunday-school teacher (where he discovered a love for teaching), coach (Varsity, JV, and junior high) for several sports (including Cross County, Volleyball, and Track and Field), HOA Board member, radio show host (both during and after college), retail manager for a music/bookstore, and several "get you through college" jobs that left great memories.

In his spare time he enjoys back-country hiking and camping, reading, exercise, music, and riding motorcycles. He also coaches an Ultimate Frisbee club for kids (Google “Kids Frisbee Club”). Joe has very little spare time and treasures every moment! Joe is a single father to his son Colby Malcolm and daughter Macie Jean and loves them more than anything!

Kris McKinister

Upon reaching voting age, Kris McKinster read the platforms of all United States National political parties and found that the Libertarian Party platform was the most logical and forthcoming. Since then, he has identified himself as a libertarian, educates himself on libertarian philosophy, and consistently votes for Libertarian Party candidates on election day.

After attending the National Libertarian Party convention in Denver in 2008, Kris became an avid Libertarian activist involved with the LPNevada. In 2009, he was voted onto LPNevada leadership. In 2010, he was the LP's candidate for Clark County Recorder.

Kris McKinster is married, a father of two, and has worked in the casino industry for six years. Prior to that, he worked in the trucking industry for three years. He also has some skill with computers and computer repair, has an interest in distributed computing, and is studying Parliamentary Procedure. He is also learning to be a Christian, aspiring to be baptized, confirmed, and an upstanding member of the Catholic community.
