2014 State Convention & Clark County Sheriff Debate Report

2014 State Convention & Clark County Sheriff Debate

Saturday February 8th, 2014 the Libertarian Party of Nevada held its 2014 State Convention and hosted the first Clark County Sheriff Debate moderated by Sheriff Richard Mack.

The convention was held in Downtown Las Vegas at the El Cortez Hotel & Casino. The purpose of this convention was to nominate candidates for the 2014 election cycle, nominate delegates to represent Nevada at the 2014 National convention in Columbus, Ohio and discuss bylaws.

Candidates:

We nominated 12 Candidates (separate blog post coming soon) to represent the Libertarian Party in the upcoming elections. The membership unanimously voted to extend the Candidate nomination until the filing deadline.

Bylaws:

No new bylaw proposals were submitted to be considered at this convention.

First Clark County Sheriff Debate

The most exciting aspect was clearly the Clark County Sheriff debate. Sheriff Richard Mack was the moderator and he didn't hold back with tough constitutional questions. Out of the candidates seeking this position, 4 of the 5 showed up. The front runner, Joe Lombardo was called out numerous times for not coming to this debate. Among the candidates were Assistant Sheriff Ted Moody, former Detective Gordon Martines, former Las Vegas Township Constable Robert "Bobby G" Gronauer and Metro Police Capt. Larry Burns.

The Libertarian Party was able to attract ALL major media in Las Vegas to cover the event. This included the Las Vegas review Journal, Las Vegas Sun and channels 3, 5, 8 and 13! Here is a portion of the Nielson report generated:

  • Total Nielsen Audience:                265,907
  • Total Calculated Ad Equivalency:  $6,882
  • Total Calculated Publicity Value:   $20,646

These are great numbers and this is just a start! Some news stations even broadcasted live portions during the debate. We ordered the news segments and when we receive the DVD's we will post them online soon.

Here are some pictures from the event.
